Volunteering with us!

Taking care of our stray animals and keep helping the stray dogs in our area generally, request a lot of time and effort.

The best way to help us is to become a volunteer with us. In this way you can help us both in a practical way, by actively taking part in everything we do and financially as all the money you will pay to become a volunteer will help us serve our purpose in helping the stray dogs of our area.

Let’s go step by step

  • Why to become a volunteer with us!

The best reason of all -- and it's likely why most people volunteer -- is to help animals / stray dogs by making a difference and giving back to their community.

Let’s be honest:  Us and 5-6 more people who work together with us, can’t make a great difference.  There are dozens of stray dogs in our area, most of them they give birth to new stray dogs and every day there are more abandoned dogs appearing for the first time. We can’t host them all, we can’t find a place for each one of them, we can’t take them all to the Vet. We are simply humans with limited financial sources.  But every dog we feed is something, every cup of water (in the summer months) is a lifesaving action,  every new home we can find is a New beginning for some pure animal. We also have jobs and families we need to take care of and therefore we can’t be 24/7 out there helping.

And for that we need your Help!

What will you do as a volunteer!

  • You will help us with the daily routine of taking care the dogs we keep in our shelter. That includes, feeding them, brushing them, cleaning their area, taking them for walks.

  • Patrolling our area and feed stray dogs, water them, evaluate their condition, bring them to a Vet  if necessary.

  • Register and take photos / videos, of the stray dogs in order to update our web site and potentially find a new Home for them.

  • Help to transport any dog that has a new Home.

  • Help us with any promotional / awareness activity we undertake.

  • Help us improve / build our facilities!

  • Develop your own ideas and or practices (presuming we have the money to do so)

What are the conditions of volunteering with us?

First of all you will need to pay a fee in order to cover the cost of your stay as well as your food and beverage. A small part of the fees will be used for serving our mission.

Accommodation is offered in a share small house in the area where all our volunteers are living together

or depending the season and / or the number of volunteers in host families.

The house is a self-running place where you and co-volunteers will need to manage. Cooking and cleaning is a matter of agreement between the volunteers, usually  on a Rota basis!

Working hours is 6 hours / day, 5 day week! Our supervisor will make your weekly working schedule in agreement with you and depending on the needs of the work.

International transportation from and to Greece will be paid by you and is by no means included in any fees.  Also any kind of insurance is not offered or included in the said fees.

Volunteers needing a Visa to enter Greece, need to make their own arrangements for obtaining a visa from their local Greek authorities.

What are the fees I have to pay?

For the year 2014 the fees are  50  Euro / 1 week stay (minimum).  Maximum volunteering period is12 weeks.

       How do I apply?

Just fill up the VOLUNTEERING APPLICATION FORM telling us who you are, why you want to work with us and the period you wish to participate as a volunteer as well as for how long. Within 7 working days we will answer your request.

Do I need insurance?

We do not offer any insurance policy or cover for our volunteers, but we also do not ask you to have one. On the other hand we are strongly recomen you to have a medical insurance and or accident insurance. It might save you a lot of Problems and money in case of an accident.

How many other volunteers will be there?

For the initial phase of this project we will accept a maximum number of two volunteers. That is at least till end of January 2015. Then we will accept up to 6 volunteers.  The exact number of volunteers working with you can’t be said here. It depends! Before your arrival you can ask us again to tell you the number.

Is there internet in the house?

Yes there is a relative fast WiFi.

Is it easy to visit Athens from the shelter?

Relatively easy. There is a bus connecting the shelter to the Metro end station (every hour or so) and Metro will bring you everywhere. Late night might be a problem and you may need to get a taxi back home.

Do I need to bring my Laptop?

Well Yes if you spend hours behing your PC.

What do I get for my fees?

You will just get a shared room with one more volunteer, in the family house next to the shelter and breakfast, Lunch and dinner during your stay. Nothing else.

What will I do there with you?

for the first phase of our project, you will just be helping in making our shelter. That means a lot of handwork, such as moving materials, cleaning, throwing, building things, painting etc. Much less effort will be given to locate more stray dogs in our area, register them take photos,  update the web site etc

What do I need to bring with me?

Well that depends on the time of the year! Warm or light cloths, some old working cloths, anything personal you might need for your free time, some pocket money to spend around discovering Athens, any medication you might need, working old shoes etc!
